Formula Renault BARC Championship 2009

Formula Renault BARC is the perfect entry-level category in which to begin a career in single-seater racing, requiring approximately half the budget needed to race in its British Touring Car Championship supporting stablemate Formula Renault UK.

The 2006 champion Richard Singleton and vice-champion Jordan Oakes affirmed that link as both progressed to race in the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship. Singleton finished seventh in the drivers’ standings and went on to win the 2007 Formula Renault UK Winter Cup and now races in Eurocup Formula Renault. The 2007 Formula Renault BARC champion Hywel Lloyd moved immediately into the National Class of the British F3 Championship.

Formula Renault BARC is very cost-effective for young aspiring drivers, with a competitive car able to be run by a privateer in the FR2000 Class for as little as £20,000. The budgets to run with a professional team in FR2000 Class start as low as £40,000, depending upon the testing programme. In Club Class, many cars are run for under £10,000.

The low-cost series, which uses identical chassis to the Formula Renault UK Championship, attracted capacity grids at a majority of rounds in 2008 and is set to continue in a similar vein as it enters its fifth year under the guidance of Renault Sport UK.

Renault UK is the longest-serving manufacturer in British motorsport, with more than 30 unbroken years running national level championships.

Together with the BARC, Renault UK hasput together a package designed to allow teams and drivers to compete at the country's best venues - including Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Thruxton - but in a way which keeps costs down.

The seven-meeting calendar has six double-header race meetings and one single-header race meetings making a 13-round championship. After registering for the championship, entrants will pay-as-they race with entry fees costing approximately £200 for a single race and approximately £400 for a double-header.

All registered entrants will be invited to attend a pre-season official test day free of charge, where they can benefit from the full technical Together with the BARC, Renault UK has put together a package support of Renault Sport UK. Entrants of FR2000 class cars may also be able to attend further official Renault Sport UK test days.

Tyres for FR2000 class cars are restricted to seven sets (14 front and 14 rear) per season in the interests of cost control and maintaining a level playing field. Michelin provides full tyre support, including fitting, at every one of the seven race meetings.

The championship benefits from a £12,000 prize fund with awards down to the fifth placed finisher in both classes at every round. The two class champions will also be given help to progress at the end of the season with free of charge entry into the Formula Renault UK Winter Championship.
