Press Release - Wednesday 13th May 2009
Allison to drive Sport Maxx Thorney Astra
Former VX Racing driver of the year John Allison will switch to running under the Thorney Motorsport banner for the remainder of this year's Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup.
The 35-year-old has secured a late deal to race a new Vauxhall Astra VXR with the Buckinghamshire squad, which currently also runs the cars of Stuart Clarke and Abbie Eaton in the series.
Allison joins the team in place of defending champion Leyton Clarke who in-turn has switched to VX Racing squad Triple Eight.
"I'm delighted with the deal," said Allison from Beverley, east Yorkshire. "I had a disappointing opening weekend and struggled with the car so when the chance to drive a new-build came up it seemed too good to be true."
"There's a great atmosphere at Thorney and the guys there have the quality to make me a consistent race winner."
Son of touring car ace signs up for racing debut in Sport Maxx Cup.
The son of British Touring Car Championship racer John George is aiming to follow in his father's wheeltracks when he tackles his first full campaign of racing this season.
Kevin George, 22, shared a car with his father in a Britcar round last season, but has now decided to commit to a full season of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup. He will kick off his campaign in the next round of the series at Brands Hatch on June 6/7.
"It's something I have always wanted to do," said Kevin, from Par in Cornwall. "I have been at all of my dad's races to support him and thought it was time to get properly involved myself. I am sure he will try and give me advice and I will listen to him, but I have got [ex Formula Ford legend] John Pratt helping me out too."
George will line up on the grid in a biodiesel-powered BMW 120D, which is run by BTCC concern Team AFM.
"My main objective is going to be keep it on the Tarmac and learn as much aas possible throughout the season," said George Jr. "Ultimately, I would love to end up in the British Touring Car Championship and this is the first step towards this."
