25/01/2008 Chairman’s Report for 2007

Since stepping up to the role of centre chairman I have found that the club’s activities have been getting increasingly busier. Whether this is due to the popularity of our Dunlop Motorsport News saloon car championship or our other motor sporting activities, it is still pleasing to note that we seem to be given the centre members what they want. I am very fortunate in having a good team of fellow committee members who have all worked very hard throughout the year...

DMN

Driver rebates In 2006 DMN drivers who competed in all the championship rounds received a rebate. This was to compensate for the fact that in 2006 AFTER the championship regulations were approved by the MSA some venues put their prices up to way beyond the maximums set in the regulations. For 2007 we managed to negotiate hard and cap the entry fees to a sensible figure, negating the need to give rebates, therefore there will not be any entry fee rebates given for 2007.

19/05/2007 Fastest Time of the Day for Standing at Goodwood

GoodwoodThe battle for FTD at BARC SEC’s Ian Bax Memorial Sprint was very much a two horse affair between two Davids, Standing and Watson. David Watson (Radical SR4) set fastest time in run 1 with a 84.67, just 0.22 ahead of David Standing (TOMS Toyota) who was recovering from a gear linkage problem in practice.

David S turned the tables in run 2 to set a new best time of 84.14 while David W was slightly slower on 85.08.  Could the Radical driver get it together and snatch FTD on the final run? No – he broke the beam at 84.77 while David S lowered the mark again to set a 83.93 and take overall honours for the day and receive the Ian Bax Memorial award from Anita Bax as best BARC SEC member....

22/02/2007 - BARCse / Borough 19 Treasure Hunt

The combined BARC South East and Borough 19 Annual Treasure Hunt, saw 12 teams compete on a very interesting route. With the start, as usual, at the Thistle Hotel just outside Brands Hatch, we were the first team away.

A sailing ship called Gannet. To the concern of the crew, Sue was keen to put some distance between us and the other competitors as she was treating it more like a race. This possibly cost us the one point, or two in the final results… Bench ? What bench ??

However, the trip to and from Lullingstone Roman Villa meant we soon met up with most of the other runners. Once clear of the ford at Eynsford we continued along the Darenth valley then turned left along the Pilgrims Way via Kemsing. We then made our way to Trossley Country Park where we had to collect our second batch of clues.

These took us through to Meopham, where we eventually thought the finish would be. Wrong! When we answered the final question we then had to decipher a mobile phone number. This turned out to be Audrey's phone and when we spoke to her we were told to look under the drivers seat to reveal the final destination. This turned out to be the Historic Chatham Dockyard, so a quick blast down the A2 was next on the agenda. At the finish we enjoyed looking around and answering some more clues before the presentation aboard a sailing ship called Gannet.

Although we did the route in the quickest time there were no awards for that, but we did finish second overall just one point behind the very lucky (and shocked) B19 chairman, Jason Watkins. Third went to Barry and Julie Morris with Graham Richardson's team fourth. A great time was had by all and it was nice to be competing instead of organising this event.

Well done to Andy and Audrey for master minding an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable good day out.
