Thruxton Circuit stepped back in time this past weekend (July 4-5) for the second edition of its popular Retro race meeting, with an emphasis on the 1980s providing the backbone to this year’s must-see spectacle.

Blending live music and historic racing with full-throttle demonstrations and family fun entertainment, the two-day event saw fans pour through the gates of the Hampshire venue in their droves.

With the 1980s being a haven for iconic music, performances from The Torn Off Strips, The Internationals, The 80s Band and UKQUEEN meant that those in attendance could belt out anthem after anthem across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Adding to the allure of the event were a number of car clubs, Group B Rally demonstrations and even drag racing, which saw some mighty machines pit themselves against each other and the tarmac on the circuit infield runway.

Of course one of the main attractions at Thruxton Retro was the racing on-track, with the Jochen Rindt Trophy being a fan favourite as legendary single-seater machines from days gone by battled for supremacy.

Rory Smith and Tom Smith proved to be the leading lights of the two coveted races that were held as they claimed a win and a second place finish apiece.

The Classic Touring Car Racing Club was also in action, delivering a feast of captivating tin top thrills and spills that spanned countless decades.

Honours in the Pre-66 Touring Cars went the way of Ian Thompson and Alex Thistlewayte, while Kevin Willis and Ian Bower were the cream of the crop in the combined Pre-83, Pre-93 and Pre-03 contests.

Nick Vaughan meanwhile proved to be at one with his Audi A3 as he cruised to a brace of race wins in the Classic Thunder, Historic Thunder and Blue Oval Saloon Series encounters.

Also flying the flag for the British Automobile Racing Club was the Adrian Flux Insurance MG Owners Club Championship. Boasting a bumper grid of more than 30 cars, Matthew Harvey and Jake McDermid enjoyed a share of the spoils as they each tallied a victory.
