Caterham Motorsport enjoyed a full-throttle race day at Oulton Park this past Saturday (July 18) as four championships from the British manufacturer continued their respective 2026 campaigns in front of a bumper crowd at the Cheshire circuit.

The event – which was organised and run by the Club’s North Western Centre – saw the Bilstein Caterham Roadsport Championship, FanDrive Caterham Seven 270R Championship, Vertex Caterham Seven 310R Championship and Motul Caterham Seven UK Championship all in action.

Richard Davies proved to be the cream of the crop when it came to the Bilstein Caterham Roadsport Championship, which is the second step on the ladder for those drivers that have progressed out of the Caterham Academy.

Heading into the weekend sitting third in the standings, Davies made significant inroads into the top two as he swept his way to pole position in qualifying, before then going on to snare a brace of lights-to-flag victories.

Similar levels of dominance were on display in the FanDrive Caterham Seven 270R Championship as Brian Thornton bolstered his own title aspirations by claiming two wins. There was also a victory for standings leader Paul Oggelsby.

Thornton’s day at Oulton Park began with him missing out on pole position by the slender margin of 0.038s. Undeterred, the multiple race winner made sure he wasn’t to be denied in the races as he twice got the better of Rob Kennerley to triumph.

Sadly the clean sweep didn’t materialise for Thornton as former Academy title winner Oggelsby came to the fore in a frenetic finale; one that culminated in Oggelsby pipping Scott Helme to the chequered flag by just 0.047s.

Over in the Vertex Caterham Seven 310R Championship, the battle for supremacy saw more twists and turns as title contenders William Harris, Paul Goldstein and Charles Harris all found themselves in the thick of the action.

Enduring their own travails over the course of the day, none of the trio would ultimately stand on the top step of the podium. Instead, that accolade fell the way of Tom Wyllys in race one before William Chadwick went on to add a double of his own.

Closing out the edge-of-the-seat entertainment around the Island layout of Oulton Park were three captivating races from the Motul Caterham Seven UK Championship; the manufacturer’s premier class.

Reigning champion Matt Armstrong showed that he is not to be discounted as he enjoyed a near-perfect outing to claim two wins and ensure his quest to clinch back-to-back crowns remains firmly alive.

Armstrong paced the opposition in qualifying to claim pole position by almost half a second before then converting it into victory in race one. He then came oh-so close to repeating the feat in race two, only to be pipped to the post by multiple Caterham champion, Taylor O’Flanagan.

After finishing race two in second place, Armstrong returned to the top step of the rostrum in a frenetic finale as he led home Justin Armstrong and championship pace-setter O’Flanagan.
