The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship enjoyed a spectacular return to action this past weekend (July 25-26) as Josh Cook, Ash Sutton and Tom Ingram charged to victory around Thruxton.

On what proved to be a blockbuster visit to the fastest circuit in the country, the UK’s biggest motorsport series picked up where it left off prior to the annual mid-season break by delivering three enthralling encounters.

As per recent weekends, Saturday’s Qualifying Race delivered captivating entertainment with Cook claiming his first triumph of the season and in doing so, he secured pole position for the first of Sunday’s three races.

The Speedworks Corolla Racing driver – who is the most successful driver around the high-speed Hampshire circuit – topped the times in the earlier qualifying session and then converted it into a flawless lights-to-flag victory ahead of title combatants Tom Ingram and Sutton.

Cook’s imperious form continued into Sunday’s aforementioned opening contest as he once again delivered another peerless drive at the front of the field to chalk up a record-extending 11th win in Hampshire.

Making a clean start as the lights went out, the 35-year-old quickly established a lead that he never looked like losing. Behind, four-time champion Sutton claimed runner-up laurels whilst Dan Rowbottom scooped a first-ever podium for Cataclean Plato Racing in third.

Race two saw Sutton then go one better around the 2.36-mile layout as he dispatched Cook towards the end of the first lap before then cantering into the distance.

Sutton was trailed by reigning champion Ingram on the road but he would unfortunately fall foul of exceeding track limits one too many times, resulting in him being handed a time penalty. That therefore promoted Dan Cammish and Cook up onto the second and third steps of the podium.

Undeterred by the misfortune of race two, Ingram bounced back ins style in the weekend’s reverse grid finale as he claimed a commanding lights-to-flag win ahead of the relentless Sutton and Cammish.

Leaving Thruxton, Sutton holds a 59-point advantage over Ingram at the head of the Drivers’ Championship, with Cammish, Cook and Ricky Collard filling the remaining spots inside the top five.

As they have done since the opening weekend, Sutton’s Alliance Racing/Ford and NAPA Racing UK top both the Manufacturers’/Constructors’ and Teams’ tables. Over in the Independents’, Mikey Doble and LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing continue to lead the way.

In the Jack Sears Trophy, James Darlin’s flawless day – where he claimed three wins from three races – has seen him move to the top of the standings, although the gap to Dexter Patterson sits at just two points.
