The Classic Touring Car Racing Club transported tin top fans through the decades this past weekend (August 1-2) as Brands Hatch staged its eagerly-anticipated Touring Car Rewind: South race meeting.

In what was a retro-filled celebration of all things touring cars, fans in attendance were treated to everything from full-throttle racing and demonstrations to static displays and family fun entertainment at the Kent venue.

Headlining the action were two action-packed contests from the Super Tourers, which included cars that defined the 1990s of the British Touring Car Championship – touted by many as being the greatest era in the series’ history.

Two captivating contests would see spoils shared between two Vectra drivers, Jason Hughes and Robert Whelan. Hughes would do so in race one as he guided the ex-Jason Plato Tripe Eight Race Engineering Vauxhall from the turn of the millennium to a sublime victory.

After finishing hot on the heels of Hughes, Whelan then came to the fore in race two as he hustled his Opel Vectra to the top step of the podium, only after getting the better of Colin Sowter and Hughes.

Elsewhere, Piers Grange was the cream of the crop in the Pre-66 Touring Cars as he charged to a dominant double in his Ford Falcon, while William Davison did the same in the amalgamated Pre-83, Pre-93, Pre-03 and Pre-13 encounters.

Rounding out the list of Classic Touring Car Racing Club winners was Joe Collier, who swept aside the opposition in his BMW M3 to win twice in the Classic/Historic Thunder and Blue Oval Saloon Series bouts.

The Caffeine & Machine Caterham Academy Championship continued its exhilarating campaign with a single 20-minute race which was won by early pace-setter William Mulholland. He pipped Morton Stratten and Benjamin Prince-Stone to the flag by just over a second in the end.

Spoils were shared in the Junior Saloon Car Championship as three different drivers stood on the top step of the podium over the course of the weekend.

Max Scharfeggar was the first to strike as he got the better of points leader Ollie Smith to triumph in race one, however Smith replied instantly with a win of his own in race two; a result that edged him ever-closer to the overall title.

Leon Holly then became the latest new face to enter the winners’ circle as he reigned supreme in what was a race of attrition. The talented teenager delivered a calm and collected performance to beat Hasnain Khan and Scharfeggar to top spot in race three.

Over in the Adrian Flux Insurance MG Owners Club Championship, Matthew Harvey showcased his talents on the Indy circuit as he powered his MG ZR to back-to-back wins ahead of the likes of Chris Lawson, Scott Bugnar, Jack Woodcock and Lee Pearce.

The British Automobile Racing Club action didn’t stop there either as also on the billing was the Track Action Racing Club, which saw Marshall Groves and Rod Birley score a win apiece.

Also racing over the course of Saturday and Sunday was the likes of the CMMC Intermarque Silhouette Series and Superkart Super Series by the BSRC.
