One-off Goodwood SpeedWeek extravaganza ready to roar into life

Goodwood is gearing up to play host to a celebration of speed, power, grace and beauty this weekend (October 16/17/18) in the shape of a one-off extravaganza; Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard.

Following the disappointment of seeing the 78th Members’ Meeting, Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and the Goodwood Revival events cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the peace and tranquility of the countryside surrounding the West Sussex venue will finally be broken by the sounds of horsepower.

Bringing together all the elements of its three flagship meetings, SpeedWeek has been billed as an event that is not to be missed.

Plenty of races will take centre stage during each of the three days, many of which usual run at the Revival. The St. Mary’s Trophy, Gerry Marshall Trophy, Glover Trophy and Whitsun Trophy are just some of the contests that are scheduled to take place.

Some of the stars competing at SpeedWeek include André Lotterer, Tom Kristensen, Colin Turkington, Jason Plato, Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan, Stig Blomqvist, Martin Brundle and many, many more.

One of the highlights of weekend is bound to be the Timed Shootout around the challenging 2.4-mile Goodwood Motor Circuit. Instead of going against the stopwatch to take on the infamous hillclimb course, drivers will take on the task of looking to beat the long-standing outright circuit record.

Sideways thrill and spills will also play out around the Goodwood grounds courtesy of a rally competition which has cars competing from across the past five decades.

Alongside the flat-out racing, SpeedWeek will also host a trio of demonstrations to celebrate Formula 1’s 70th Anniversary, the 50th Anniversary of Porsche’s first Le Mans victory, and the Group C era of endurance racing.

In addition, the latest road-going models from global manufacturers will take to the track, including machinery from McLaren, Lamborghini and many more.

The three-day event will take place behind closed doors however spectators will be able to savour all of the action courtesy of a live stream on the Goodwood Road & Racing website.
