Snetterton delivers all-action BARC race weekend

The British Automobile Racing Club put on a show around Snetterton’s 300 circuit this past weekend (April 13/14) as a number of championships continued, as well as started, their 2024 campaigns with two days of exceptional action-packed racing. 

On was the first of several visits the Club will make to the Norfolk venue over the course of this year, four categories took centre stage to write the latest chapter of their stories for the crowd watching in attendance and at home via YouTube.

The British Endurance Championship in association with Motorsport UK saw PB Racing with JMH maintain their 100% winning record in 2024 as Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton charged to a dominant lights-to-flag victory.

After reigning supreme at the series’ Donington Park curtain-raiser last month, the Audi GT3 duo were among the favourites to star at Snetterton and they didn’t disappoint as they quickly showcased that they were in a league of their own.

Clinching a commanding pole position during qualifying, the only challenge that Erceg ended up facing was the hustle and bustle of the opening lap, where he was briefly put under pressure by the Porsche’s of Team Tasman and Road & Competition Engineering through turns one and two. 

Once clear, Erceg built up a steady advantage throughout his stint before handing the car over to Clutton, who was wheel-perfect to the finish. In the end the pair took the chequered flag five clear laps ahead of their nearest challengers.

Behind the eventual race winners, Team Tasman – which was made up of David Harrison and Nathan Luckey in a Porsche 991.2 Cup – secured a spot on the second step of the podium after holding off the race-long charge of Chris Murphy in his BMW E46 GTR, who finished third. 

Caterham Motorsport began their 2024 season in style with four of their five championships producing a plethora of thrills and spills across an unmissable 11 races. 

In the Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship, spoils were shared between Nick Bryant, Toby Ballard and Ben Timmons whilst Hugo Bush, Harry Cook and Lars Alexander Hoffman did the same in the Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship.

More than 40 cars lined up to battle for supremacy in the Bilstein Caterham Roadsport Championship however there was one name that stood head and shoulders above the rest to win both races, Jonathan Emery. 

There was virtually nothing to separate defending champion Lewis Thompson and William Smith in the Vertex Caterham Seven UK Championship. Thompson laid down his marker with victory in the opener however try as he might, he couldn’t overhaul Smith in the remaining two bouts. 

Harry Hickton emerged as one of the leading lights from the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE Trophy as he produced a near-perfect display to claim the early bragging rights at the top of the championship standings. 

Kicking off a brand-new campaign with three action-packed races, Hickton reigned supreme in the popular one-make series as he claimed victory in two of the three contests, while Sam Gornall secured the remaining honours that were up for grabs.

After shadowing Gornall to the chequered flag in race one, Westbourne Motorsport’s Hickton was a tour-de-force in race two as he went from ninth to first in just over a lap and once out front, he was uncatchable as he pulled clear to claim a long-awaited maiden win. 

The Hampshire-based racer didn’t have to wait too long for a second win in the championship as he utilised another of his demon starts to jump into the lead at the start and then control proceedings while Alex Solley and Reece Lycett trailed him in second and third.  

Concluding the weekend’s track action around Snetterton were two races from the Britcar Trophy Championship which, like the British Endurance Championship, was back competing following a pulsating season-opener a couple of weeks’ back. 

Simon Mason and Chris Bialan picked up where they left off a few weeks ago by chalking up their second consecutive victory in their Cupra Gen 1. After qualifying inside the top three, the duo were in scintillating form as they carved their way to the front to ultimately triumph.

Maurizio Sciglio then led home a Datum Motorsport 1-2-3 in the weekend’s finale as he led home Axel van Nederveen and Marco Anstasti. Sciglio’s victory means that three driver entries have now stood on the top step of the podium across the opening four races.

Caterham celebrates 50th Anniversary in style at Donington Park

Caterham Cars marked its Golden Anniversary in spectacular style this past weekend (September 2/3) as the iconic British sports car manufacturer staged its 50th Festival at Donington Park. 

Celebrating five decades of the world-famous marque at the Leicestershire venue, the two-day event was packed with blockbuster racing, parades and paddock displays; which included the latest Caterham Cars range of UK models and its very own heritage timeline.

Ahead of its eagerly-anticipated appearance on the British Touring Car Championship support bill at Silverstone later this month, the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven UK Championship had everyone captivated as they served up three frenetic races on the National layout.

Aaron Head proved to be the cream of the crop as he charged to a hat-trick of victories; all of them coming by the slender margin of less than one second as Stephen Lyall and Lewis Thompson kept him within touching distance throughout.

Hugo Bush snared a brace of race wins in the Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship however his chances of clinching a hat-trick like Head were thwarted as Taylor O’Flanagan reigned supreme in race two.

The Mission Motorsport Caterham 270R Championship saw Freddie Chiddicks bring the curtain down on what has been a mesmerising campaign for himself by adding to more wins to his season tally.

Chiddicks utilised all of his pace and experience to hold off the chasing pack in races one and three to emerge victorious. Marc Jones came out on top of a pulsating battle with Ben Timmons to triumph in an entertaining second contest.

In the Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship, Rob Kennerley clinched a pair of wins whilst Henry Speeks and Nick Highton each claimed victory in the respective White and Green races of the Adrian Flux Insurance Caterham Academy.

The Caterham Academy also held an additional bout – its coveted Autumn Trophy – which saw Jonathan Emery triumph, leading home Henry Morris and Arif Hanif to take the chequered flag.

Joining in on the celebrations under the flight path of East Midlands airport was the Morphmy Caterham Graduates Championship; which staged the penultimate rounds of its season.

Ben Wheatley continued what has been a year to remember by bagging two more wins in the Sigma 135 class whilst Will Stillwell and James McCall snared a win apiece in the amalgamated Sigma 150 and Sigmax bouts.

Concluding the weekend’s track action were two races from the CSCC Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens, which saw Stephen Nuttall and Christian Pittard lead a bumper grid to score one victory each.

Caterham Motorsport headlines action-packed weekend at Snetterton

Caterham Motorsport headlined an entertaining two days of track action as the British Automobile Racing Club took centre stage at Snetterton this past weekend (August 19/20).

Basked in bright sunshine, the Norfolk venue – which is set to host more BARC wheel-to-wheel thrills in just a few days time – provided the backdrop to no less than 22 races in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Having produced edge-of-the-seat entertainment wherever they have been so far this season, it came as no surprise that Caterham’s quintet of championships topped the billing in spectacular style on the near three-mile 300 layout. 

Ahead of their appearance on the British Touring Car Championship support package next month, the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven UK Championship served up a trio of pulsating contests that were won by Stephen Lyall, Aaron Head and Lewis Thompson.

The Adrian Flux Insurance Caterham Academy produced four equally frenetic encounters with Jonathan Emery and Nick Highton scoring a win apiece in the Green Group whilst Istvan Demes and Matthew Kirtland did the same in the White Group.

Ben Timmons was perfection personified in the Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship as he claimed a brace of narrow victories, the first of which was clinched by the slender margin of just 0.158 seconds over Toby Ballard. 

In the Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship, Charlie Lower maintained his title charge with an impressive double win however he was denied a hat-trick by the ever-impressive Duncan Mallard.

Rounding out the flurry of Caterham thrills were three races from the Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship, all of which won by the superlative Jack Sales. 

The MINI CHALLENGE Clubsport with Airtec Motorsport also featured over the course of the weekend and it provided arguably one of the standout performances as Charlie Newton-Darby romped to a hat-trick of race wins in commanding fashion.

Elsewhere, Tommy Grout triumphed in the Uncle Luke’s Snetterton Saloons whilst Lee Harpham and Tom Rushforth shared the spoils in The Super Series by British Superkart Racing Club’s three contests.

BARC delivers Silverstone scorcher on Grand Prix layout

The sun shone on the British Automobile Racing Club this past weekend (June 24/25) as a number of championships continued their 2023 campaigns around the world-famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Returning to the Home of British Motor Racing for the second time this year, the BARC took centre stage under the bright blue skies for a 13-race schedule across two days that was just as scorching on track as it was off it. 

Less than a week on from staging its milestone 250th race at Oulton Park, the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA was back in action and the latest instalment of their season saw more history made as the series competed around Silverstone’s 3.66-mile layout for the first time.

Ahead of its annual summer break, the single-seater series – which is the first step on the road to Formula 1 – served up a pulsating trio of races where slip streaming and wheel-to-wheel battles had those watching trackside and online on the edge of their seats.

Rodin Carlin’s Josh Irfan became the tenth different winner in a pulsating opener as his lightning start from row two saw him charge into a lead that he would ultimately never lose – with the rookie driver controlling proceedings out front to triumph ahead of Will Macintyre and James Piszcyk.

Race two then saw Irfan’s team-mate Noah Lisle strengthen his championship challenge with an impressive third victory of the season before James Piszcyk rounded things off by leading a Hitech Pulse-Eight top four lockout in race three.

The British Endurance Championship headed back to Silverstone with another strong entry list however nobody was able to stop the PB Racing Audi R8 GT3 duo of Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton – who reigned supreme in commanding style.

Arriving at the Northamptonshire venue as the team to beat, Erceg and Clutton quickly established themselves out front as they blasted to pole position in qualifying by little under a second.

As the lights went out on Saturday afternoon’s two-hour bout, the striking black and orange R8 GT3 wasted no time in establishing an advantage out front. The multiple race winners soon broke clear of the chasing pack and began to stretch their legs, ultimately taking victory by two laps.

Best of the rest was the Scott Sport Lamborghini Super Trefeo Evo of Mikkel Mac and Keith Frieser in second and the Team HARD duo of Brad Thurston and Daryl de Leon in their Porsche 991 Cup in third.

Datum Motorsport’s Axel van Nederveen headed Ginetta dominance in the ROWE Britcar Trophy Championship as he charged victory in Sunday’s two-hour race. 

Having missed out on pole position in qualifying to the Assetto Motorsport duo of Jade Edwards and Mike West, van Nederveen had looked on course to follow the pole sitters to the finish – who were largely dominating proceedings – before a gearbox issue sadly scuppered their chances during the pit stop phase.

Going on to inherit top spot in the latter stages, van Nederveen was wheel-perfect for the remainder of the contest to take victory ahead of SVG Motorsport’s Neil Wallace and Ian Astley and his Datum team-mate Marco Anastasi.

Elsewhere, three of Caterham Motorsport’s five championships continued their 2023 campaigns by producing a quite sensational show of close-quarter racing.

Just 0.011 split the top two in the opening Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship bout as Edward Cozzi edged Ben Timmons TO the chequered flag. Timmons would have his moment on the top step of the podium however as he charged to victory in race two.

Freddie Chiddicks took a clean sweep of victories in the Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship whilst Domenique Mannsperger, Harry Cook and Lars Alexander Hoffman shared the spoils in the Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship.

Elsewhere, the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA – which is fresh off the back of a milestone outing at Oulton Park – will continue its 2023 campaign with a trio of single seater contests.

Caterham Motorsport delivers Croft cracker in North Yorkshire

The British Automobile Racing Club basked in the North Yorkshire sunshine this past weekend (May 20/21) as Caterham Motorsport’s roster of championships took centre stage at Croft Circuit for the latest rounds of their 2023 season.

Organised and run by the Club’s North Western Centre, the two-day meeting produced an unmissable feast of captivating wheel-to-wheel action as a number of drivers ramped up their pursuits of being crowned champion later this year.

The Adrian Flux Insurance Caterham Academy – which is geared towards those drivers that are embarking on their first steps in the sport – produced two memorable contests from its White and Green categories.

Daniel Neale delivered a masterful drive at the front of the ‘White’ race to pip Istvan Demes to the chequered flag by a little over half a second whilst Jonathan Emery reigned supreme to claim victory in the ‘Green’ bout.

In the Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship, Jack Sales proved to be in a league of his own at times as he produced a virtuous display which culminated in a hat-trick of race wins. 

Charlie Lower and Freddie Chiddicks were the cream of the crop in the Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship as they shared the spoils. From the minute they arrived at the venue there was very little split to them, with Lower getting the better of Chiddicks in races one and two before the latter struck back in race three.

Over in the Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship, there was further dominance as Ben Timmons remained the one true constant – mainly out front – as he chalked up an impressive brace of wins.

Lewis Thompson meanwhile maintained his strong start to the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven UK Championship campaign as he powered his way to a trio of mesmerising victories.

Rounding out the weekend’s track action were two races from the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup, which were won by Jamie Blake and Craig Blake, and two Z Cars/Production GTi Championships contests; where Simon Vercoe and Ryan Sayer triumphed.

Feast of Caterham action set for Croft Circuit

The British Automobile Racing Club makes its first trip of the year to Croft Circuit next weekend (20/21 May) for a spectacular spring showcase of some of the best national motorsport categories.

With the 2023 season in full swing and a number of drivers beginning to set their sights on the ultimate goal of being crowned champion, this event at North Yorkshire’s premier track is set to be pivotal for those competing.

Organised and run by the Club’s North West Centre, the two-day meeting will see a feast of Caterham action which will include the Adrian Flux Insurance Caterham Academy, Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship, Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship, Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship and Avon Tyres Caterham Seven Championship.

Also in action will be the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup and Z Cars/Production GTi Championships which will add variety to an action-packed weekend. Practice gets underway at 9.30 on Saturday with a seven-race programme starting at 12.35 whilst Sunday sees track action from 12.00 noon with the ten remaining races.

Meanwhile, with just over two months to go until Croft Circuit hosts the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship over the weekend of July 29/30, advance tickets are still available. Adult advance prices are £16 for Saturday, £32 for Sunday and £43 for a weekend ticket. Prices for 13 to 15-year-olds are priced at £6, £9, and £12 respectively and all accompanied children aged 12 and under go free.

Caterham Motorsport springs into action at Oulton Park

Caterham Motorsport kicked off the latest chapter of their illustrious history this past weekend (April 1) as they ran under the British Automobile Racing Club banner for the first time – serving up a big grids and blockbuster wheel-to-wheel entertainment at Oulton Park. 

Organised and run by the Club’s North Western Centre at the picturesque Cheshire circuit, the popular manufacturer – which celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year – lifted the curtain on its 2023 season in spectacular style.

In the Mission Motorsport Caterham Seven 270R Championship, spoils were shared as two drivers established themselves as the early pace-setters. 

After charging to pole position by a little over a tenth of a second in qualifying, Charlie Lower came out on top of a captivating four-way battle for victory in the opening encounter, as he led home Matt Larbey and Rrutuj Patki.

Freddie Chiddicks – who had been given a 10-second start line penalty in race one – proved to be the driver to beat for the remainder of the day as he bounced back by coming to the fore to triumph in races two and three.

The Motul Caterham Seven 310R Championship saw some of the closest winning margins registered over the course of the day however the victor remained the same throughout all three bouts.

Lars Alexander Hoffmann proved too much for the opposition by clinching a hat-trick of wins, although two of them were ultimately by less than a staggering tenth of a second.

Lewis Thompson made his mark on the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven Championship UK as he took an impressive brace of wins. After topping qualifying and then narrowly missing out on the Superpole, Thompson reigned supreme in commanding fashion to win both races.

In the day’s third schedule Seven Championship UK race, an on-track incident brought the red flag out and proceedings to a halt. Caterham Cars has since provided an update on the incident HERE.

Rounding out the day’s action were a handful of contests from the Vertex Caterham Roadsport Championship, where spectators arguably witnessed one of the closest finishes of the season already – with the top four covered by just 0.079.

After a monumental multi-car scrap for overall honours in race one, a drag race to the start-finish line saw Lyonel Tollemache pip Ben Timmons to the top step of the podium by a mere 0.006 of a second whilst Tom McEwing finished 0.065 behind in third.

Race two would see things be just as close however it was Timmons that reigned supreme this time as he fended off the the advances of McEwing to register his first victory of the year.

The British Automobile Racing Club speeds into Oulton Park this Saturday (April 1) for the Caterham Motorsport Spring Race Meeting.

Organised and run by the Club’s North West Centre, this weekend marks the first of several trips to the picturesque Cheshire venue over the course of the year – and our TV cameras will be there to capture all the action.

Having joined the BARC ranks for 2023, Caterham Motorsport – the UK’s largest factory-backed family of championships – will take centre stage on the International for a full-throttle day of wheel-to-wheel action.
