Convoy in the Park gears up for return at Donington Park with unmissable race schedule

Donington Park will rumble to the sounds of horsepower this weekend (August 21/22) as the British Automobile Racing Club speeds into Leicestershire for a titanic two days of track action.

After being postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Convoy in the Park makes a triumphant return. Showcasing more than 1000 Show Trucks, driving experiences, stunt arena, trade village and much more, the two-day event is a festival of all things trucking that is fun for all the family.

Whilst there is set to be plenty to see off-track over the course of the weekend, on it will see a number of championships continue their 2021 campaigns.

Heavyweight thrills ’n’ spills will be provided by the British Truck Racing Championship, with bumper entry lists in Division’s 1 & 2 confirmed for its five scheduled contests.

Reigning champion Ryan Smith is in the box seat of Division 1 as it stands after making a lightening start and he will be hard to beat once again. In Division 2, just a couple of points separate Craig Evans and Steven Powell heading into the weekend.

Miles Rudman occupies top spot in the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres standings and the former champion looks in good form as he seeks to retain the title he lost last year.

With no less than six races set to play out under the flight path of East Midlands airport during the weekend, Rudman will need to be at his best as the likes of John Mickel, Jack Parker and Sean Smith, amongst many more, will all be hot on his heels.

The Pickup Truck Racing Championship has been home to a number of edge-of-the-seat moments this year and more are expected to come, whilst there have also been plenty of entertaining battles in the Caterham Graduates Championship.

Notable names to look out for during the weekend amongst the Caterham contingent include Harry Senior, Ben Winrow, Jamie Ellwood, James McCall and several more.

Saturday afternoon will see the Silverlake C1 Racing Series take centre stage as they hold what should be an enthralling 180-minute endurance race around Donington’s flowing curves. 

Rounding off the weekend will be a regular appearance from the BARC North West Centre’s flagship series, the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship. Renowned for producing close-quarter racing, the multi-class series isn’t to be missed.

Mixed weather adds to BARC spectacle at Croft

Mixed weather conditions only added to the spectacle at Croft this past weekend (August 7/8) as the British Automobile Racing Club served up a motorsport bonanza in North Yorkshire.

In what is always a popular trip to the north of England, five championships continued their campaigns in front of an enthusiastic trackside crowd.

Miles Rudman maintained his position at the top of the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres standings after producing an impressive performance around the 2.12-mile circuit.

Chalking up two wins, the former champion was one of the leading lights over the course of the weekend whilst there were also victories for John Mickel, Will Gibson and a brace of Jack Parker.

The Caterham Graduates Championship produced its fair share of thrills and spills with no less than four races taking centre stage too. Wheel-to-wheel action ran throughout the entire Sigma 135 class as James McCall and David Read each scored victory.

Elsewhere, the amalgamated Sigma 150 / Sigmax bouts also saw a different driver stand on the top step of the podium in each encounter. Harry Senior – one of the in-form drivers heading into the event – starred in race one as he powered to victory before Ben Winrow came to the fore in race two.

There was unmissable action in the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship. Jon Woolfitt powered his Spire GTR to top spot in race one before Paul Rose bounced back from a retirement to end the weekend on a high, winning race two.

It proved to be an emotional weekend for the Silverlake C1 Racing Series as the Club paid tribute to the late Angela Lucas, who tragically passed away at an event at Snetterton last month.

Following a poignant tribute lap, the 31-car grid embarked on an action-packed three-hour race which saw Team Davies ultimately prevail. The team of John Davies and Matthew Davies delivered a commanding drive to claim the chequered flag by more than 30 seconds.

Capping off the weekend’s track action were two contests from the ever-entertaining MINI CHALLENGE Trophy. Boasting a near 30-car field, Joe Wiggin and Nicky Taylor enjoyed a share of the spoils as they claimed a win apiece.

Croft Circuit ready to welcome BARC for full-throttle weekend

The British Automobile Racing Club heads north to Croft Circuit this coming weekend (August 7/8) for two days of full-throttle action from no less than five championships.

In what is always a popular visit to the North Yorkshire venue – which is owned and operated by the BARC – Croft’s 2.12-mile layout of sweeping curves and precise braking points make it real challenge and a firm favourite for those behind the wheel.

One of the headline acts for the anticipated bumper trackside crowd will be the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres. Renowned for producing edge-of-the-seat wheel-to-wheel moments, the pocket rockets will duke it out in six contests over the course of the weekend.

Former champion Miles Rudman finds himself in the box seat as the driver to beat currently however the likes of Will Gibson, John Mickel, Sean Smith, Jack Parker and Nick Bridgeman are all hot on his heels.

The Caterham Graduates Championship has arguably enjoyed one of its best years to date so far and it looks set to continue at the home of motorsport in the north of England. With near capacity entry lists for its Sigma 135, Sigma 150 and Sigmax classes, the series has gone from strength-to-strength in 2021.

With the business end of the season now rapidly approaching, every point will be critical in deciding who will end the year crowned champion. Notable names to look out for across both days includes Harry Senior, Jamie Ellwood, Ben Winrow, James McCall and Harry Cramer, amongst many more.

Fans will see plenty of variety courtesy of the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship too. Organised and run by the Club’s North West Centre, the multi-class category has been a smash-hit for more than three decades now.

Also boasting a bumper grid, some names that will be worth casting a watchful eye over during the weekend’s two scheduled races include Paul Dobson, Jamie Cryer and Graeme Smith.

The Silverlake C1 Racing Series is poised for an emotional return to the track at Croft this weekend as it prepares to pay tribute to the late Angela Lucas.

Whilst competing in the series’ four-hour race at Snetterton last month, Lucas sadly lost her life following an accident in the final hour of the contest at the Norfolk venue. A popular figure amongst the C1 Racing Club members and well-known throughout the motorsport community, Lucas’ tragic passing has seen the sport unite in recent weeks.

The one-make category will take centre stage on Sunday for a three-hour bout and it is expected to boast an ultra-competitive entry as well. Before that however, a parade lap will take place with the entire grid in honour of Lucas.

Rounding out the weekend’s action will be a pair of races from the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy. Matt Hammond currently leads the way however a sizeable accident at Oulton Park recently has left him in doubt to compete; if he doesn’t then the likes of Dominic Wheately, Harry Nunn and Charlie Mann will all be aiming to close the gap to the standings summit.

Convoy on the Plain delivers Thruxton thriller

Thousands of enthusiastic spectators flocked to Thruxton Circuit this past weekend (July 3/4) for what proved to be an action-packed Convoy on the Plain spectacle.

In what was the inaugural running of the trucking festival, fans flocked to the high-speed Hampshire venue to soak up both the on and off track entertainment – of which there was plenty.

Headlining the two-day schedule were five colossal contests from the British Truck Racing Championship. Weighing in at more than five tonnes and producing in excess of 1000bhp each, the heavyweight behemoths provided unmissable action around Thruxton’s sweeping curves.

Reigning Division 1 champion Ryan Smith strengthened his position at the summit of the standings as he was perfection personified, powering his Mercedes to four commanding victories. John Newell proved to be the only driver that could stop Smith as he claimed the remaining win.

Division 2 saw a trio of drivers stand on the top step of the podium with Craig Reid leading the line with an impressive hat-trick. Current title holder Steven Powell and former champion Adam Bint also charged to victory over the course of the weekend too.

From the titans of truck racing to the pocket rockets of the Mighty Minis Championship, where sensational slipstreaming had fans on the edge of their seats. Following an almighty scrap for outright honours, Greg Jenkins edged Stuart Coombs to score victory in race one before Steven Rideout came to the fore in race two to triumph.

Additional single-make thrills and spills were provided by the Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires, where Alex Cursley claimed a commanding win to the tune of more than 13 seconds.

Cursley was the driver to beat in race on Sunday, however this time it was by the reduced margin of five seconds ahead of Wayne Rockett and Matt Mitter.

The Caterham Graduates Championship wrote the latest chapter in their 2021 campaign with four pulsating bouts. In the Sigmax/Sigma 150 bout, Jamie Ellwood charged to victory before Harry Senior did the same in the Sigmax/Sigma 135 race.

Jamie Winrow then proved too much for the opposition in the Sigma 150/Sigma 135 race before Ben Winrow powered his way to the front of the non-championship encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Elsewhere, William Sharpe and Fergus Campbell shared the spoils in the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship, each taking a superlative victory apiece. BARC Red was back on track too, with local ace Jamie Sturges piloting his Volkswagen Golf TCR to victory.

Rounding out the weekend’s track action were two races from the Welsh Sports/Saloon Car Championship, both of which were won by the Ginetta G55 of Chris Everill.

Thruxton revved up for inaugural Convoy on the Plain spectacle

Thruxton Circuit is gearing up to stage the ultimate festival for all things trucking this weekend (July 3/4) as the inaugural Convoy on the Plain takes centre stage for an expected bumper trackside crowd.

In what continues to be one of the most popular events on the Thruxton calendar each year, the British Truck Racing Championship will descend on the Hampshire venue to headline what is set to be a blockbuster two days of track action around the fastest circuit in the UK.

The passion for ‘big rigs’ doesn’t stop there either, with fun for all the family on offer at Convoy on the Plain. Show truck displays, a trade village, skid pan rides, food stalls, free camping and much more will make it a weekend to remember.

Coming off the back of blockbuster season-opener at Brands Hatch last month, the heavyweight behemoths of the British Truck Racing Championship will do battle in five scheduled contests across both days.

Division 1 has a familiar feel to things as reigning champion Ryan Smith sits atop the standings after claiming a hat-trick last time out. Aiming to clinch a sensational sixth consecutive crown, Smith enters the weekend as the driver to beat however the likes of Stuart Oliver, David Jenkins and Mark Taylor are just a handful of names hoping to take the fight to the Mercedes ace.

Over in Division 2, defending champion Steven Powell and Craig Reid find themselves tied at the top of the points after both enjoying a strong start at Brands Hatch. Throw into the mix Adam Bint, Simon Cole, Brad Smith and Craig Evans and you will see it can be just as wide open in class two.

C1 Racing Club stars as the BARC basks in the Silverstone sun

The British Automobile Racing Club basked in the bright sunshine at Silverstone this past weekend (May 28/29/30) as the C1 Racing Club took centre stage around the legendary Grand Prix circuit for its hugely-popular 24-hour race.

In what proved to be another pulsating spectacle for the budget-conscious category, a bumper 58-car grid would hit the track however nobody ultimately could stop Hybrid Tune – Full Circle Racing from triumphing in emphatic fashion.

Hitting the front in the fourth hour after qualifying eighth, the four-man driver line-up of Stephen James, Sam Weller, David Meenan and Mark James would remain a constant presence towards the front of the field throughout before grabbing the initiative in the closing stages.

Completing a total of 431 laps and setting the fastest lap along the way, the quartet finished just under 50 seconds ahead of AB Motorsport’s Oliver Allwood, Brian Trott and Stuart Symonds.

Rounding off the podium, albeit two laps down on the leaders, was Fake-Shake n Bake-with Team Gaz Shocks. Behind the wheel of the #312 machine and in contention until the latter hours was Tommy Field, Max Maxted and Graham Coomes.

Before the C1 Racing Club embarked on its epic day-long contest, a number of other championships wrote the latest chapter in their 2021 campaigns around the 3.67-mile layout of the Northamptonshire venue.

Boasting a highly competitive entry list, the Caterham Graduates Racing Club was always going to serve up edge-of-the-seat entertainment and did just that with four races that will undoubtedly live long in the memory for many.

The Sigma 135 and Sigmax categories amalgamated together to create a mammoth 53-car grid, with wheel-to-wheel battles running throughout. At the front of the field, Harry Senior narrowly edged Ben Winrow, Stephen Clark and Simon Griffiths in race one to triumph before producing a repeat performance in race two.

In the Sigma 150 class, a slightly smaller entry of 33 cars took to the track but the battle for supremacy proved to be just as close. Jamie Ellwood and Jason McCormack proved to be the class of the field as they netted a win apiece.

The Max5 Racing Championship possessed a competitive entry list too but nobody was able to stop Paul Roddison from continuing his strong start to the new season. Running alongside the Sigma 150 class of the Caterham Graduates Racing Club, the one-make category delivered a memorable showing.

Starting at the back of the grid in race one, Roddison served up an overtaking masterclass as he scythed his way up the order to narrowly claim victory ahead of Jon Halliwell. The series stalwart then doubled his tally for the weekend with a superlative performance in the second encounter to extend his winning streak to four straight races.

Rounding out the weekend’s on-track entertainment were two races from the Sports Prototype Cup. Showcasing the very best of UK prototype racing, the ‘Silverstone Open’ saw a variety of machines go against each other around the Home of British Motor Racing. 

Whilst the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Bradley Ellis and James Abbott all featured,  Bonamy Grimes underlined his class behind the wheel as he powered his Duqueine LMP3 to a brace of victories.

Citroen C1 24-hour race set to take centre stage around Silverstone Grand Prix circuit

Silverstone’s legendary Grand Prix circuit will provide the backdrop for the British Automobile Racing Club’s latest race meeting this weekend (May 28/29/30) which will be headlined by the C1 Racing Club’s annual 24-hour race.

In what is now billed as one of the most highly-anticipated events on the UK national motorsport calendar, the one-make series will see a bumper grid tackle the Home of British Motor Racing in front of a trackside audience and thousands online.

Before the C1’s take centre stage however there will be action from the Caterham Graduates Racing Club, Sports Prototype Cup and Max5 Racing Championship.

The last time the C1 contingent competed at Silverstone – in 2019 – they re-wrote the record books by fielding the biggest grid in UK motorsport history. Boasting a mammoth 99-car grid, the category eclipsed the previous record of 75 cars which was held by the Britcar Endurance Championship.

To top things off the race saw one of the greatest comebacks in recent memory too as McAttack Racing came from the back of the grid to win the entire race. This year will undoubtedly see similar levels of drama as a grid of more than 50 cars get set to tackle the challenging 3.67-mile layout.

Notable team names to look out for during the race include Mellow Yellow Motorsport, JW Bird Motorsport, Preptech UK with CEX, Amigo Motorsport with Gala Performance, Silverlake Racing and SVG Motorsport, amongst many more.

Elsewhere, the weekend is also set to showcase the very best of UK prototype racing, as the inaugural ‘Silverstone Open’ takes place. Featuring the Sports Prototype Cup’s centrepiece category, the Revolution A-One Trophy, the format will see a bumper grid of prototype machines from a variety of categories battle it out across two 30-minute encounters.

Boasting an ultra-competitive entry list for this weekend’s first event of 2021, more than 20 drivers representing manufacturers such as Duqueine, Ligier, Radical, Gunn, MCR, CTR, as well as the Revolution A-One Trophy, will battle for outright honours.

Sir Chris Hoy, Bradley Ellis, Johnny Mowlem, Bonamy Grimes, Steven Lake and Martin Verrity are just a few of the names that will be in contention towards the sharp end of the field.

Coming off the back of two blockbuster events at Oulton Park and Snetterton, the Caterham Graduates Racing Club is back in action and with another capacity entry list.

Renowned for serving up frenetic wheel-to-wheel entertainment, the category has underlined why it has proven to be so popular this year with a host of unmissable races from its Sigmax, Sigma 135 and Sigma 150 classes.

Jamie Ellwood, Jamie Winrow, Harry Senior, Simon Grffiths, David Read and James McCall are just a handful of competitors that have enjoyed strong starts to the season, and each of them will be keen to keep the momentum going.

Capping off the weekend’s schedule at Silverstone will be an appearance from the Max5 Racing Championship, which will run on the back of one of the Caterham grids.

Around the challenging twists and turns of Cadwell last month the Max5 contingent delivered a feast of action which culminated in series stalwart Paul Roddison tallying a brace of victories ahead of Andrew Pretorius.

Roddison and Pretorius are set to renew their on-track battle this weekend and they won’t be the only drivers hoping to be in contention for the spoils on offer. Jeremy Shipley, Lee Hollin and Kimberley Nolan were all in the mix last time out and there should be no reason why they won’t be again.

BARC championships star on wet ‘n’ wild weekend at Snetterton

The British Automobile Racing Club faced heavy rain, high winds and then dry conditions at Snetterton this past weekend (May 8/9) as a number of championships continued their 2021 campaigns.

With the new season gathering momentum, the first of several visits to the Norfolk venue this year produced a fascinating two days of track action as competitors navigated the challenging, ever-changing weather conditions.

Taking centre stage was the Britcar Endurance Championship, with two races for its Endurance class and a further two for its Trophy contingent. In the Endurance category, Scott Sport duo John Dhillon and Phil Quaife piloted their Ferrari 488 to victory in race one before John Seale and Jamie Stanley did the same in race two for JMH Automotive.

Woodrow Motorsport proved to be the cream of the crop amongst the Trophy contenders as Simon Baker and Ollie Reubens teamed up to twice score victory in their BMW 1 Series.

Charlie Hand established himself as the driver to beat in the Junior Saloon Car Championship as he extended his advantage at the summit of the standings by scoring an impressive pair of wins.

Having triumphed at Cadwell Park last time out, the 2020 runner-up mastered the 2.99-mile circuit from the get-go, not making any mistake to further ignite his challenge for the coveted title.

The Caterham Graduates Championship was at its brilliant best with a quartet of scintillating bouts. In the Sigma 150 races, two drivers showcased their talents behind the wheel as they shared the spoils. Jamie Winrow and Jamie Ellwood claimed a win apiece, picking up from where they left off last month.

Harry Senior meanwhile was in inspired form as he stood on the top step of the podium in both amalgamated Sigma 135/Sigmax races.

The Carbon8 Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires took centre stage on Saturday afternoon for a single 30-minute contest and it didn’t disappoint. Boasting a bumper entry list, Shane Stoney converted pole position into a commanding victory ahead of Wayne Rockett and Alistair Dendy.

Elsewhere, former BTCC champion Andrew Jordan enjoyed a perfect weekend in the Mini Miglia Championship as he scored two wins whilst Jeff Smith did the same in the Mini Se7en Championship.

Rounding out the weekend’s action were several races from the British Superkarts Racing Club. As he has done on previous occasions, Liam Morley emerged as the driver to beat as he powered his way to a sensational hat-trick of race wins.

Snetterton awaits quartet of BARC championships

As the 2021 season begins to gather momentum, the British Automobile Racing Club descends on Snetterton this weekend (May 8/9) for a blockbuster two days of track action that isn’t to be missed.

Despite current government guidelines meaning that spectators won’t be permitted to watch trackside, our Facebook and YouTube pages will be live streaming every lap to ensure that nobody misses a second of the enthralling entertainment that will undoubtedly be produced.

Having been one of the stars of the show at Silverstone last month, the Britcar Endurance Championship continues its season with two races apiece for its Endurance and Trophy classes.

Showcasing a wide variety of machinery, each category saw bumper entry lists as it lifted the curtain at the Home of British Motor Racing and that theme is set to continue in Norfolk. Cars from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Praga, Aston Martin and Porsche will all be in action, with stars such as Abbie Eaton, Jem Hepworth and YouTube ace Jimmy Broadbent being just a few of the names that are competing.

The Caterham Graduates Championship currently boasts one of the biggest grids in UK motorsport, underlining that the appetite to going racing has never been greater as it stands. Coming off the back of a sensational opener at Oulton Park, the one-make series will look to take centre stage with its four timetabled races.

Notable front-running contenders to look out for over the course of both days include Simon Shaw, Harry Senior, Jamie Ellwood, James McCall and Ben Winrow, to name but a few.

Another series that is renowned for producing full-throttle thrills is the Junior Saloon Car Championship. Home to the next generation of motorsport stars, the tin top series has been the ultimate proving ground for those starting out and this years grid looks to be as close as ever.

Charlie Hand came close to the title last year and he has made a flying start this time around to lead the points at this early stage. However, the competition is fierce and the likes of Aaron Walker, Ruben Hage and Deagan Fairclough, amongst many more, will be keen to close the gap during the weekend’s two races.

The Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires enjoyed a memorable start to the year at Cadwell Park and it looks set to serve up more thrills and spills around the challenging 2.99-mile 300 layout.

Providing a low-cost method of going motor racing, the one-make series has proven to be a smash-hit over recent seasons and 2021 looks to be no different. Alex Cursely and Alistair Dendy shared the spoils last time out and both will be keen to stand on the top step come the end of the single 30-minute encounter that is scheduled to play out.

Also on the billing during the weekend will be contests from the Mini 7 Racing Club and British Superkarts Racing Club.
