2020 Season Review: Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup

Having twice finished as runner-up, Will Burns came good in 2020 as he was crowned Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup champion after producing a sensational season-long performance.

Entering the season as one of the title favourites and hungry to finally lift the coveted crown, the Rob Boston Racing driver ensured that third time was the charm for him to follow in the footsteps of former winners Harry King and Charlie Ladell.

Burns kicked his campaign off with a double win at Donington Park before then embarking on a relentless points-scoring streak that would see him net a further three victories – at Croft and Snetterton – as well as a host of podiums too.

Taking the fight to the former BTCC racer over the course of the campaign was Tom Hibbert and series newcomer Gus Burton.

Each leading the standings at some point during the year, Hibbert and Burton chalked up three and five wins of their own respectively however neither of them would be ultimately able to stop the juggernaut that was Burns.

As the season wore on, the duo of Adam Smalley and Jamie Falvey also came to the fore towards the front of the field, netting six wins between each other, and adding further intrigue in the battle for overall honours.

Putting himself to within touching distance of the crown following a virtuoso performance at Snetterton, Burns entered the final event of the season needing just to finish to finally wrap up the coveted crown – and he did just that.

Powering his rear-wheel-drive machine to a brace of second place finishes, the 30-year-old was deservedly crowned champion for the first time after several missed attempts.

Elsewhere, the Pro-Am class saw Colin White regain the crown he had lost last year whilst Stewart Lines became the inaugural Amateur title winner, edging out Carl Garnett by just two points come the end of the year.

Champions to be crowned throughout unmissable TOCA support package

It won’t just be the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship that will crown champions at Brands Hatch this weekend (November 14/15) as titles will be decided throughout the TOCA support package as well.

Taking centre stage alongside the UK’s premier motorsport series since the 2020 campaign roared into life back in August, each support championship has served up a feast of entertainment over the course of the past three and a half months.

In the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship, a three-way battle between Bailey Voisin, Tom Lebbon and Josh Rattican will come to a head across two blockbuster encounters. All three have been a force to be reckoned

Voisin enters the weekend in the box seat, holding an 11-point lead over Lebbon who is looking to make history as the first-ever Scholarship winner to win the main prize in their first year. Rattican meanwhile is a further ten points back, well within striking distance.

Will Burns sits on the cusp of being crowed Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup champion for the first time, having been runner-up on two previous occasions. The Rob Boston Racing driver has been the man to beat for a majority of the season, scoring no less than five victories and a further eight podiums to-date.

Burns’ nearest challenger is Gus Burton, who has proven to be a revelation during his maiden campaign. Burton will need things to fall his way however he has shown he is more than capable of running towards the front in the ultra-competitive series.

The Quaife MINI CHALLENGE has proven to be a smash-hit during its first year on the TOCA support package and it too will crown a champion around the Indy circuit of the famous Kent venue.

Nathan Harrison holds the lead but with Ant Whorton-Eales, Dan Zelos, Tom Rawlings and Max Bird all hot on his heels, the stage is set for an enthralling battle for supremacy.

It’s set to be all to play for in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost as the single-seater category brings the curtain down on another season with three scheduled contests.

Zak O’Sullivan and Luke Browning are tied on points so it will be a simple case of whoever outscores the other will be crowned champion.

One championship that has already been settled is the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, with Harry King have secured an unassailable lead last time out at Snetterton. King has been the benchmark driver during his rookie year and will undoubtedly look to put the exclamation point on what has been a scintillating campaign.

Titles decided during dramatic Brands Hatch TOCA support showdown

Alongside the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this past weekend (November 14/15), high drama ran throughout the TOCA support race championships as titles were decided and champions were crowned.

Bringing the curtain down on an unprecedented season which has consisted of nine events crammed into just three-and-a-half months, treacherous weather conditions added to the spectacle over the course of two blockbuster days at the Kent venue.

History was made in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship as Tom Lebbon secured the title following a tense finale. Tallying a pair of second place finishes, the Elite Motorsport driver became the first Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner to win the overall crown at the first attempt.

Lebbon had been in the thick of a three-way title fight alongside Josh Rattican and Bailey Voisin for a majority of the season but came good at the end, triumphing in sensational style. Rattican and Josh Millar would claim the final race wins of the season.

In the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup, Will Burns was finally crowned champion after a superlative campaign. Having twice been a runner-up in the series, the Rob Boston Racing driver made no mistake this year as he paired raw speed with consistency to net the title.

Burns wrapped the championship up in the opening encounter as Adam Smalley and Gus Burton shared the remaining spoils of the 2020 season.

Having made their mark during their first year on the TOCA support bill, the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE signed off a stellar debut season with two enthralling bouts. As Max Bird and Lewis Brown took a win apiece, Excelr8 Motorsport’s Harrison held his nerve to deliver too formidable drives which would prove good enough for the title.

After clinching the title at Snetterton last month, Harry King put an exclamation point on his domination of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with another stunning display. Sweeping the competition aside this year, the Porsche GB Scholarship winner racked up his 11th and 12th wins of the season to sign off the year as a worthy champion.

The final title to be decided around the Indy layout was the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost, with Luke Browning emerging as the victor in dramatic circumstances.

Zak O’Sullivan won the final round of the year however heavy rain hit the circuit and, on the grounds of safety with the entire field on slick tyres, the race was red-flagged. Half points were awarded and that swung the pendulum back to Browning, crowning him champion by four markers.

BTCC Season Finale at Brands Hatch to go ahead as planned

Series organisers, TOCA, have confirmed that the British Touring Car Championship season finale at Brands Hatch on November 14/15 will go ahead as originally planned.

This past Saturday (October 31) saw Prime Minister Boris Johnson address the nation and announce that England will enter into a four-week national lockdown from Thursday 5th November to Wednesday 2nd December at the earliest to combat the spread of coronavirus.

In light of the restrictions that are associated with this impending lockdown, the Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed that elite sport will continue behind closed doors during this next lockdown period.

Since the resumption of racing on July 4th, the BTCC has been classified under the elite sport bracket and has operated behind closed doors, without spectators. The BTCC will therefore continue to race, bringing the curtain down on its 2020 campaign at Brands Hatch and crowning a champion.

Titles will also be decided on the TOCA support package as the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost, Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship, Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Quaife Mini Challenge take centre stage as well.

Harry King clinches Porsche crown as remaining TOCA title battles intensify at Snetterton

Harry King became the first champion to be crowned on the TOCA support package this year at Snetterton over the course of last weekend (October 24/25), securing an unassailable lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB whilst title battles intensified elsewhere.

Joining the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at the Norfolk venue for the penultimate event of the season, the TOCA support package served up a sensational two days of racing where the main protagonists battled to stay in contention ahead of next month at Brands Hatch.

One title that has already been sewn up is Carrera Cup GB after King was provisionally crowned champion at Snetterton. Having been the class of the field since debuting at the start of the season, the Porsche GB Scholarship winner put himself out of reach of his main rival and team-mate Josh Webster.

As he has done for a majority of the campaign, King proved to be in a league of his own on-track as he claimed two commanding victories to seal the title with a race meeting to spare.

Will Burns put himself on the verge of clinching the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup crown after scoring a win and a second place during the penultimate event of the season.

Having been vice-champion twice, the Rob Boston Racing driver is now within touching distance of the title after another strong performance. Burns claimed a lights-to-flag victory in the opening encounter before Adam Smalley and Gus Burton went on to triumph later in the weekend.

The Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship is delicately poised heading into the Brands Hatch finale with just 11 points separating Bailey Voisin and Tom Lebbon at the summit of the standings.

Scholarship winner Lebbon enjoyed a dream weekend around the challenging 2.97-mile track as he powered his way to a sensational hat-trick of race wins. The Elite Racing ace became the first driver in two years to complete the clean sweep, and he provisionally wrapped up the Rookie title as well.

It’s set to be a tense showdown in the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE JCW in November as Nathan Harrison bids to covert his now 27-point lead over Ant Whorton-Eales and Dan Zelos into championship silverware.

Harrison produced a stunning drive in the opening encounter to tally his third win of the season before Isaac Smith held off Max Coates to claim his maiden victory in the series in race two.

Elsewhere, Zak O’Sullivan and Luke Browning shared the spoils across three enthralling F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost races to set up a thrilling finale that will see the pair head to Brands Hatch level on points.

It’s all to play for on the TOCA support package this weekend (October 24/25) as five championships descend on Snetterton for what will be the penultimate event of the 2020 season.

Two races from the MINI CHALLENGE JCW Championship is bound to get pulses racing also as a bumper grid embarks on their fourth event of the season. Serving up a feast of entertainment wherever they go, the one-make tin top category sees just a solitary point separating the top two, Ant Whorton-Eales and Nathan Harrison.

The pair have been the standout performers so far this season however both will need to keep an eye on the chasing pack as the likes of Dan Zelos, Max Bird and Lewis Brown are all in the mix too.

Rounding out the weekend’s action will be three contests from the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. Just 13 points separate Luke Browning and Zak O’Sullivan at the top of the standings.

Ginetta announces provisional 2021 race calendars

Ginetta have announced the provisional race calendar for its four one-make domestic championships that will form an integral part of both the British Touring Car Championship and British GT Championship support packages.

The Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship will once again take centre stage on the TOCA support package, with the series being contested over nine weekends. Missing the annual trip to Croft to allow drivers to sit their GCSE examinations, the UK’s longest running and most prestigious junior series will continue to offer a platform for young drivers start their motorsport careers.

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup will also feature alongside the BTCC this year with a welcome return to Knockhill confirmed as one of the eight rounds that will be run next year.

A change for 2021 will see the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge and the Ginetta G40 Cup combine onto one grid for the first time. The championships will contest seven race events across the BTCC and British GT Championship bills.

Next year will mark the sixth consecutive campaign that the GT5 Challenge has featured across both packages whilst the G40 Cup will make its maiden foray to race alongside the BTCC.

Rounding off the Ginetta action in 2021 will be the brand-new Ginetta GT Academy, which offers entry level racing for drivers of all experience levels, with the field split between experienced drivers and a ‘Rookie’ Class. The inaugural calendar will see it make appearances alongside both British GT and BTCC.

Mixed conditions add to the TOCA support championship drama at Croft

Croft Circuit played host to a quite spectacular two days of TOCA support championship track action this past weekend (October 10/11), with the North Yorkshire venue proving pivotal in deciding who will eventually be crowned champions.

The complexion of the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship turned upside down once again as Josh Rattican and Tom Lebbon shared the spoils. Bailey Voisin had entered the weekend with a comfortable points lead but a nightmare two races for the youngster has meant his rivals have closed up.

Rattican’s third victory of the campaign put his title rivals on notice but it was Lebbon’s race two drive that really turned heads, clinching a dominant lights-to-flag win by more than six seconds.

There were further twists and turns in the battle for supremacy in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup over the course of the weekend, with a trio of contests setting pulses racing.

Will Burns converted pole position into a commanding lights-to-flag victory in race one and then repeated the feat in race two as he soaked up race-long pressure from Adam Smalley and Gus Burton. Race three honours fell the way of Smalley.

The Cayman Islands Porsche Sprint Challenge GB made its debut on the TOCA package and it didn’t disappoint, delivering two breathless encounters around the challenging 2.13-mile circuit.

Former Renault UK Clio Cup vice champion James Dorlin reigned supreme ahead of Theo Edgerton in race one amidst the fading light on Saturday and then proved unbeatable during Sunday’s action-packed race, clinching victory and extending his championship lead at the same time.

Elsewhere, the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy made its final appearance of the season on the TOCA package and served up a feast of entertainment as a bumper grid went wheel-to-wheel around the challenging BARC operated track.

Harry Nunn proved to be in a league of his own as he stormed to victory in race one ahead of Josh Porter before Andrew Langley triumphed in a truncated second bout.

Two contests from the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost rounded off the weekend’s track action at Croft, with Zak O’Sullivan and Casper Stevenson taking a win apiece.

TOCA support championships revved up to take centre stage at Croft

It’s not just the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship that is reaching the business end of the 2020 season at Croft this weekend (October 10/11) as championships on the TOCA support package also reach a pivotal point in the year.

Bailey Voisin is back to being the driver to beat in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship after scoring a brace of wins at Silverstone last time out. On a weekend which saw his rivals endure their own misfortunes, the R Racing driver is now in the box seat heading to Croft.

However, as has been demonstrated on countless occasions this season, the title picture can change in a flash in Ginetta Juniors and you can bet that the likes of Josh Rattican, Tom Lebbon and Georgi Dimitrov, amongst others, will be keen to turn the tables across the weekend’s two races.

Throw into the mix front-runners such as Zak Taylor, Tom Edgar and Aston Miller, you begin to see how competitive the series for drivers aged between 14 to 17 really is this year.

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup returns to the track with an equally intriguing battle for supremacy brewing as well. Seven points currently separate the top three in the standings and Croft’s challenging layout could write another enthralling chapter in what has been a storybook campaign so far.

Over the course of the season so far, the championship lead has been shared between Tom Hibbert, Will Burns and Gus Burton, with Hibbert currently the man to beat after recording a third win of the season last time out at Thruxton.

Hibbert will be aiming to increase his points advantage at a circuit he won at last season, however it won’t be easy. Burton has been a revelation in his maiden campaign, while Burns is a consistent podium finisher with a wealth of experience in the series.

After starring at Thruxton, the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy makes its final appearance on the TOCA package and if previous outings are anything to go by, fireworks are set to fly on-track.

Notable names to look out for across the weekend’s two encounters include Ben Kasperczak, Archie O’Brien, Lydia Walmsley and Dominic Wheatley.

Making its debut at Croft on the TOCA support bill will be the Cayman Islands Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. New-for-2020, the Cayman GT4 series has been a smash-hit since launching and has boasted a bumper Pro/Am entry list at each round.

Tom Jackson enters the weekend at the summit of the standings however former Renault UK Clio Cup race winner James Dorlin is hot on his heels and fully focused on closing the five-point deficit that currently sits between them.

Rounding out what is set to be a blockbuster weekend of racing at Croft will be two contests from the all-action F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Silverstone’s National layout plays host to the latest instalment of the 2020 season for five TOCA support championships this weekend (September 26/27), where blockbuster entertainment is all-but guaranteed.

Scholarship winner Tom Lebbon is the latest driver to lead the standings but with three encounters scheduled to take place and the likes of Bailey Voisin, Josh Rattican, Georgi Dimitrov and Joel Pearson breathing down his neck, things could change in an instant.

Embarking on their second event in as many weekend’s, the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge returns to the TOCA package with an enthralling title battle brewing.

Jonny Wilkinson, Josh Malin, Gordie Mutch and James Taylor have been the lead protagonists throughout the season thus far and the quartet will undoubtedly be the ones to watch around the flowing 1.64-mile Northamptonshire venue.

In the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Harry King has proven to be in a league of his own at times however two punctures at Thruxton when in a race-winning position has seen his advantage in the points slashed.

Likely to be the driver to beat, King will hope to open up his advantage in the standings once again whilst Josh Webster, Will Martin and Ross Wylie – amongst others will continue in their pursuit of the Scholarship victor.

The Quaife MINI CHALLENGE JCW Championship is also back in action at Silverstone with its own title battle gathering pace. It has been all-out action in the tin top category so far this year and as it stands no less than six drivers are in the mix for the coveted prize.

Rounding out the weekend’s track action will be a trio of races from the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. JHR Developments ace James Hedley holds the momentum as it stands after clinching a sensational hat-trick at Thruxton.

TOCA support championships serve up drama and entertainment at Thruxton

Thruxton Circuit’s high-speed nature and unique challenge played its part this weekend (September 19/20) on the TOCA support package as five championships continued their 2020 campaigns producing a feast of drama and entertainment.

Taking centre stage alongside the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship around the fastest circuit in the UK, the action proved to be fast and furious as the title battles in each category further intensified.

Bailey Voisin and Josh Rattican shared the spoils on a frenetic weekend in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship, taking a win apiece. Voisin strengthened his position in the standings in race one as he led home Rattican and Tom Lebbon, extending his winning streak at the same time.

Rattican however turned the tables in a blockbuster second race which saw a series of incidents take place throughout the field. When the dust settled however, the R Racing driver kept his cool and scored his first win of the season ahead of Lebbon and Josh Millar.

Jamie Falvey became the newest winner in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup as he powered his way to an impressive pair of wins. Falvery’s breakthrough came in an enthralling opening encounter before he doubled up with an impressive lights-to-flag drive in race two.

Race three around the 2.35-mile Hampshire venue belonged to Tom Hibbert, who soaked up plenty of pressure to hold on to his third win of the season and with it, claim the overall championship lead.

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB saw heartbreak for upon Harry King as he twice suffered a puncture when comfortably out front. Having been the driver to beat so far this year, the Team Parker Racing looked set to add to his already impressive season statistics only to be cruelly robbed.

Instead, Will Martin and Ross Wylie took advantage of King’s misfortune to chalk up their maiden race wins in the championship.

Tin top thrills and spills were in full force when it came to the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy as a bumper grid went wheel-to-wheel – sometimes six abreast round parts of the circuit – to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Ben Kasperczak, Leonardo Panayiotou and Andrew Langley each battled through the drama to tally a win apiece in the end.

Capping off what proved to be a breathtaking weekend was a virtuoso performance from James Hedley, who claimed a masterful hat-trick of race wins in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost around his local circuit.

It won’t just be the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship that will tackle the ultimate thrill ride that is Thruxton this coming weekend (September 19/20) as several support championships will continue their 2020 campaigns as well.

In what will mark the halfway point in the season for a number of categories, the annual visit to the high-speed Hampshire venue is one that is always eagerly-anticipated, with the demands of the 2.36-mile circuit pushing drivers and their cars to the limits.

Having produced a string of edge-of-the-seat moments already this year, the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship is undoubtedly not to be missed as it stages its latest two races.

Just four points separate Bailey Voisin and Tom Lebbon at the head of the leaderboard however the likes of Georgi Dimitrov, Josh Rattican and Joel Pearson will be focused on ensuring it won’t be a two-horse race for the coveted Junior crown.

The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup returns to the track after missing the trip north of the border to Knockhill, and its Gus Burton that has a stranglehold on proceedings at the top of the standings.

Burton’s double at Oulton Park saw the pendulum swing his way however both Tom Hibbert and Will Burns remain within touching distance of the Century Motorsport driver, making it an unmissable three-way fight for supremacy.

Harry King has, for the most part, been in a league of his own this year in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and the Team Parker Racing driver is showing no signs of letting up as he chases down the title in his rookie season.

Winning six of the eight races run so far, the Porsche GB Scholarship victor will be hard to beat, although that is what the likes of Josh Webster, Matthew Graham and Scott McKenna will all be targeting.

After setting pulses racing at Oulton Park last month, the MINI CHALLENGE Cooper Class returns with three races scheduled to play out over the course of the weekend. Boasting a bumper entry list, expect fireworks to fly throughout the field.

Rounding out the BTCC support bill action at Thruxton will be three high-octane encounters from the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. Luke Browning holds the advantage in the points but the chasing pack are hot on his heels.

This weekend’s race meeting at Thruxton will be run behind closed doors, subsequently meaning that spectators will not be permitted to enter the venue. Race day coverage on Sunday will be broadcast on ITV2, starting at 11:
